Gallery talk: David Armstrong: The Burden of the Beholder – In an era of Photoshop and digital mash-ups, the casual viewer might be forgiven for thinking that David Armstrong’s surreal images are computer-generated, yet the seamless collages are created the old-fashioned way – with scissors and patience. The exhibition features images and text from Armstrong’s publication, “The Burden of the Beholder,” created at the CC Press, and featuring poetry from 19 nationally recognized writers. The public is invited to a reception for Armstrong and his collaborators on the book project. The Burden of the Beholder exhibition will be on display in Coburn Gallery through February 11. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12:30-5 p.m. Sponsored by the President’s Circle and the Colorado College Cultural Attractions Fund.

Verburg has exhibited her work extensively in the United States and abroad and was the subject of a mid-career retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art in 2007. Interruptions will be on display at the IDEA Space from January 28 to March 5. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 12:30 to 7 p.m. A closing reception and gallery talk with JoAnn Verburg will take place on Thursday, March 3 at 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by the NEH Distinguished Professorship and the Colorado College art department/Stillman Fund for Exhibitions.
