We could all use some good news.

The college has not been immune to the hard economic times sweeping the country in the last year. We’ve lost programs, sports and some very good people. It has been traumatic for students, faculty and staff. Like anyone else in this environment, those who remain are grateful to have our jobs, and almost all of us are adjusting to increased work loads and stress. We are doing the best we can, from President Celeste to every program staff assistant, facilities crew member, professor, or support professional. And we know all of you are going through very much the same things in the community, and you are doing the best you can, too.
Let’s hope our friends and colleagues who have lost their jobs this year will be re-hired in new jobs soon, and let’s use our own networks to help them.
Let’s support and encourage each other, and look for the genuine glimmers of good news and work well done.
Here are a couple of “good news stories” for both Colorado College and the city of Colorado Springs.
CC was late to sign on to the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, but we made sure that when we did it, we did it right. As American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment spokesperson Lee Bodner says, “President Celeste and his team have not only done their homework – they’ve earned extra credit. By doing such extensive advanced investigation and planning, Colorado College is farther ahead in fulfilling the terms of the Commitment than almost any other school in the country.”

Colorado Springs was late to embrace our Diversity Forum and its “Everybody Welcome” celebration, but once the community got behind the effort, it’s grown in leaps and bounds. CSDF officers and volunteers submitted a grant application in which “Everybody Welcome” was judged #3 among community diversity projects nationwide. That’s a wonderful surprise in a city often known, rightly or wrongly, as a hotbed of intolerance. best to all,
Connie
