How has the Block Plan helped in your work world?

How has the Block Plan helped you in your work world?

  1. I find the block plan very similar to the focused, project specific work I do over a couple weeks …. then onto the next project. - Russell Wirth
  2. I really like the premise that it creates: you have a limited time window to accomplish things. It encourages you to focus your efforts, get a good result, and move on to the next thing. I think of the Block plan parallels to work life often. – Sean Cunningham
  3. It’s a terrific match to my work, you work all the time til you break for meals and sleep and occasionally something fun although unrelated during the day. - Liz Brimm
  4. Learning to deal with Deadlines. It was great. - Ed Simmons
  5. The real world doesn’t work like semester-long classes. I don’t work on projects for an hour, every few days, over a period of three months. My job usually involves working on one or two things very intensively for a period of days and then moving on to something else.Anyone can monitor something intermittently over a period of months – just make calendar reminders. The Block Plan teaches students how to maintain intense focus for an extended period of time, which is not something people do naturally. - Thomas Quinlen
  6. Being able to tackle a challenge efficiently is a huge bonus – looking at the desired end result and figuring out what steps you need to take to get there without getting caught up in stress about time constraints, pressure, etc.In depth report due in 2 days? No problem. - Ellie Peck Chadwick
  7. As a freelancer who has never held any formal, structured, full-time job for more than 2 years, I see now that the block plan suited my preferred work style and probably helped prepare me for being a freelancer. I like to do a good, thorough job on a particular project, then say “goodbye” to it and move on to the next one. In retrospect, the only class I might have decided not to tackle in the block plan after all was Italian; that was a tough one for me. Ouch. - Erica Jeffrey
  8. The Block Plan prepared me for the project-based world that I currently work in. I have found that a tight crunch deadline that makes other people run for cover just gets my blood flowing. I know what I am capable of (who remembers back to back 20 page papers?) and I can deliver on it. Incredibly, the most valuable lesson I learned was how to think effectively. I have found a mental peace and calm in the midst of panic that I believe comes directly from the mental discipline of the Block Plan. - Christine Stolz
